Unlock the Secret to Perfect Cheese Arepas
Ingredients:
- 2 cups GOYA Masarepa cornmeal
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tbsp salted butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp powdered chicken bouillon
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- Queso Fresco, shredded
- Barrilitos (for serving)
Preparation:
In a bowl, add the 2 cups of GOYA Masarepa cornmeal.
In a measuring cup, combine the 2 cups of warm water with 2 tablespoons of butter, salt, and chicken bouillon powder. Mix well.
Gradually add the liquid mixture to the Masarepa. Mix and incorporate all ingredients until well combined.
Add the shredded mozzarella and queso fresco. Mix until you form a hydrated, soft, and pliable dough.
Let the dough rest for 5 minutes. While it rests, heat a grill or griddle (comal) and add some butter.
Form the arepas one by one. Place them on the hot griddle. Once cooked on one side, flip them over. Cook for approximately 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Serve hot with a cold Barrilitos! Enjoy!
