National Oatmeal Month

National Oatmeal Month

Breakfast - something I could eat all day, everyday.

Oatmeal

Now healthy breakfast on the other hand? That's quite a struggle. That is, until I got introduced to an oatmeal overhaul thanks to Women's Health Magazine. In their December issue, they had an article titled, Overhaul Your Oatmeal with a delectable picture of Strawberries and Cream oatmeal. Not only did it look super healthy, the recipe was as easy as elementary school and it was delicious.

Here it is - plain and simple:

Add 1/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1/4 cup sliced strawberries to oatmeal and stir well. Garnish with strawberry halves.

PER SERVING: 300 cal, 3.5 g fat (0.5 g sat), 61 g carbs, 25 mg sodium, 6 g fiber, 12 g protein

Not bad, right?

They also had a great recipe for Maple-Bacon Oatmeal

If you'd like to try an even heartier type of oatmeal, Irish steel-cut oats may be for you:  steel-cut oatmeal is the least processed kind of oatmeal, giving the dish more texture and a slightly nuttier "mouth feel."

What's your favorite way to make oatmeal (the healthy version, of course!)?
