Blog 11.08.2011of successful dieters in the National Weight Control Registry eat breakfast daily. Did you see the keyword there? SUCCESSFUL. These people have maintained a 30-pound (or more) weight loss for at least a year, and some as long as six years. Those who ate breakfast are more apt to have a successful go at dieting, and with the New Year (and those pesky resolutions) right around the corner, we wanted to take a minute and remind you just how important breakfast is.

You've heard the common phrase, "break the fast," right? That's what breakfast does - it breaks the fast from overnight and is a time the body needs to be refueled. The body actually needs to be refueled a few times a day to ensure you are getting enough vital nutrients as well as not over-eating in lieu of missing important meals like breakfast. Eating breakfast keep your metabolism running and keeps your body from going into "starvation" mode (or at least think it's going into starvation mode). If you're like me, there's probably been a time where you waited so long to eat and were SO hungry, you'd pull into just about any drive-thru and order thousands of calories worth of food, right? That is bad! And that's what happens when you skip meals like breakfast.

And no, coffee as your breakfast doesn't count!

Breakfast should be full of protein and high in fiber. Things like low fat meats, eggs, nuts, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, yogurt, whole grains and fresh fruit juice are all good things to stock your refrigerator with. Something as simple as a hard boiled egg or apple and piece of whole grain toast can really help get your metabolism going for the day and keep you focused at work or school.

Our bakery department at each Fiesta grocery store is full of delicious grains and breads to choose from as well as flavorful sugar-free jellies to help add a little extra flavor. On days where you have more time for breakfast, head over to our Recipe Corner and search "breakfast" for tons of delicious recipes for the whole family (or office!).

Life's a Fiesta! To get any of the breakfast ingredients above, stop by your local Fiesta Mart this week and find out what's going on inside.
