We Love Grilling

Family -GrillingWarmer weather in Houston means the return of meals cooked on the grill. We have all your grilling needs covered, everything from meat and vegetables to fruit and marinades. Stop by your local Fiesta and stock up on the essentials, but don't be afraid to try something new too. With summer produce in full swing, why not try grilling corn on the cob or asparagus? How about grilled peaches and pineapple for dessert?

Getting the grill ready? Look for wood chips and charcoal. Planning a picnic or an outdoor party for a large group? Pick up disposable plates and napkins, maybe even disposable cups. Think about cleanup too - you might need re-sealable bags to store leftovers or extra garbage bags if you're not cooking at home.

Once you have the basics, start thinking about specific items you'll need for the steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage, chicken or turkey legs you're grilling. Get the dry rub, steak sauce, or marinade that's your favorite, or the ingredients you'll need to make them. One of the easiest items to forget is probably the bread. If you're using bread for hamburgers and hot dogs, or only as a side like dinner rolls, you won't want to make a second trip just for them.

Here's where you might get points for creativity. By grilling your fruits and vegetables, you can keep all of the cooking in one location and you won't have to go inside or cook anything ahead of time if you are grilling in a park. Corn, asparagus, peppers, zucchini and even potatoes can be grilled. And nectarines, pears, cantaloupes or bananas would make a great grilled dessert. Just serve them with ice cream or honey, depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have.

With all this heat and all that work, make sure you pick up a great beverage. Whether you reach for iced tea, fruit juice, water or lemonade during the summer, you'll need enough for the whole crowd.

Have fun with your grilling! And check your current weekly ad for the latest grilling-related specials.
